Fade the HeatStarted a little slow but as I got into it I couldn t put it down Good suspense with just enough sex 334 I believe the title may mis represent this book because the heat never faded No really I love the title Explosive sizzling just another Colleen Thompson book that I couldn t put down The perfect balnce of romance and suspense as always 334 Reagan Hurley is a firefighter but is having problems with asthma She needs a doctor to sign her medical forms and goes to Dr Jack Montoya But the doctor refuses to falsify the records Later his apartment is torched Did the lovely firefighter seek revenge An enjoyable read with many elements I like in my reading but it didn t have that Wow factor that makes a 5 star for me 334 Interesting read being from Houston myself It is nice when an author is familiar with the area city they are writing about and Ms Thompson does About the book itself having lived in Houston with respiratory issues myself I pretty much knew what the issue was before it was revealed toward the end of the book No surprises there or with who the bad guy bad guys turn out to be 334 1. 5 5 E 334 First you gotta find the perfect bottle the Firebug rasped Too hard and it won t bust when it hits the floor Too thin and it explodes on impact with the window splashing you with the fuel mix and burning you to hell Someone is setting fires in the Houston barrio and Dr Jack Montoya is the first intended victim Is there some connection between the torching of his apartment and the gorgeous blonde from his past who appears at his clinic that same day For sure Reagan Hurley turns up the flames of his libido but these days the beautiful firefighter is interested in putting out conflagrations than fanning old sparks Yet when a hotly contested mayoral race turns ugly when Reagan s life is threatened and Jack s career almost destroyed when desire sizzles uncontrollably between them it seems that no one will be able to Fade the Heat Fade the HeatGood romantic suspense although slightly dated A doctor is being victimized by some racist thugs in the name of racial purity When he is burned out of his home leading to another tragedy he becomes a city pariah He determines to trace the source of his troubles There are a lot of twists and turns but this one is worth the ride 334 This book was difficult for me to rate The plot was interesting but I was never able to completely buy into the main characters Jack and Reagan I felt like Ms Thompson never fully developed any of the characters in this book and the readers ends up not caring nearly enough about any of them Plus and I know this isn t quite fair to Ms Thompson I have read one too many books in a row full of mean people saying and doing hurtful things People who are suppose to be friends and even family There was almost no one to like in this book I loved Fatal Error and I will definitely read of Colleen Thompson but this book was really just average 334 Ask anyone who knows me and my reading habits and they ll tell you that romantic suspense is my favorite genre and it s authors like Colleen Thompson who keep feeding my obsession Being fortunate enough to read Fatal Error her 2004 release that went on to become a RITA finalist I was anxious to get my hands on FADE THE HEAT Let me tell you you cannot possibly go wrong with this book From heart pounding action adventure to immersion into the world of the hero and heroine to palm sweating sizzling romance this book is at the top of what the romantic suspense genre is all about Dr Jack Montoya has only one goal in life and that s to be the best doctor he can be He s always been determined to do whatever he can for the people in his Spanish barrio community in Houston The son of a Mexican man who drowned while trying to illegally enter the United States Joaquin Jack Montoya has been accused of both being too sensitive to the needs of Mexicans and not being Mexican enough Now that the press has found out about his practice of doctoring his paperwork to provide free health care to the children of illegal immigrants he s being alternately crucified and canonized for his activities Jack though doesn t want to be a scapegoat or a saint he simply wants to live up to the Hippocratic Oath and do all that he can for the sick individuals who enter the East End Clinic Unfortunately doing anything doesn t apply to falsifying medical records for beautiful firefighter Reagan Hurley For Reagan being a firefighter for the city of Houston is all she ever wanted to be It defines who she is and she s determined that being diagnosed with asthma will not slow her down Except the asthma is slowing her down is in fact threatening to end her fire fighting career in its tracks She went to Dr Montoya s office both because she knew him personally and because she assumed that with his sympathies towards illegal immigrants he might be willing to help her out Reagan needs a doctor who will sign off on her medical forms and she had hoped Jack would be the one to do so But then he tells her in no uncertain terms that he won t jeopardize his own career or disobey the Oath to lie to her superiors about her health situation especially when it could get her killed So Reagan leaves the clinic mad at both Jack and the world and her own body s traitorous condition Later the same day Jack s apartment is the victim of a torching and his mind immediately turns towards Reagan Was she so angry at him that she would set his home on fire If that s the case then how did Reagan s Captain end up dead As the heat intensifies with fires being set all over the barrio Reagan becomes the main suspect in the eyes of her fellow firefighters As for Jack he s now fighting both the press over the practices of his Clinic and his growing feelings for Reagan As the two of them delve ever deeper into the mystery of who s behind the arsons they must learn to trust in each other and the power of their convictions FADE THE HEAT is one book all lovers of romantic suspense will not want to miss The action never stops nor does the growing relationship between Jack and Reagan These are two characters who are all too human in their thoughts and feelings and the story is better for it Thanks Ms Thompson for such a compelling and enjoyable read 334 Don t get me wrong this book is very good book to read Suspense Romance is not really my interest which is why I rate it as a 4 stars It is about a girl who is a firefighter that investigated to find the arsonist responsible for burning down a building During her investigation she encountered a handsome doctor whose responsibility is to give medical attention to immigrants illegally Their romance has developed as they both worked together and so has the plot continued to rise as well As they both got closer to finding the suspect for blowing up the house and the fire department their lives had suddenly got in danger and they must find a way out alive Want to know Read the book I d recommend this book to any adults who are into romance as well as suspense This book is also rated so please be mindful when reading this book 334 I did enjoy the characters and the suspense of the story but there was one aspect that bothered me For the author to include a character who had so much stage time including a physical assault and slandering of her character at their workplace and then not have any hashed out resolution of this in the end was frustrating If it was so unimportant then why did the author include so much of that particular storyline in the book I hate when authors do that 334
