Jadeli rosa Perhaps the first problem lies in the plot which is unevenly paced Elements such as characters and important motifs esp in the first half of the book are introduced in a fearful hurry leaving one both bewildered and increasingly frustrated Structurally it is narrated in the first person progressive which can be a tricky beast to master and alas the internal monologue in Jade serves to disconnect instead of provide context and emotion to written action The main character herself is also a worry the classic Mary Sue possessing the strengths of a dozen supernatural creatures with none of their traditional weaknesses unless they re cool weaknesses The lack of the fatal flaw to her character left me grinding my teeth as she effortlessly defeats an enemy or displays a previously unheralded new talent Although this does get explained away later it is also quite dumb.
